HDTV Frequencies

HDTV's are the thing of today. You can seldom find old analog TV's in the United States today. This is because it is much better, efficient, power - saving, gives you crisp and clearer images and its flat and not space consuming. Now, take that analog! But the problem now is, can you use this with analog TV frequencies? We could see many TV stations turning digital and HD nowadays but can it still pick up frequencies like analogs? The answer is yes and no.

Yes, because there are methods of picking up frequencies from various stations and no because it cannot pick it up the same method as the analogs does, through antennas. Usually, if you are connected to cable TV, that ain't a problem. But HDTV's are meant to be connected to digital decoders, not antennas.

HDTV frequencies are different from the analog frequencies that you normally get. But I think almost all the local stations in the United States are adapting HD technology so if you have an analog TV, you can't pick that up. However, there are three ways to counter that problem:

- You can use OTA digital receiver that would only get local channels. These are available at almost any electronic shop in the United States. It costs around a hundred to two hundred bucks. It is a bit advantageous if you use this because you won't have to pay for the painful monthly bills.

- You could get and HD satellite tuner. It has a built in over the air tuner. This is good because you don't have to use equipment. You have everything in one box. It is quite convenient and cost - effective, compared to having to separate boxes for satellite and digital and another for local over the air tuner.

- Buy and HDTV and forget about your analog. Buy an HDTV that has an integrated OTA tuner.

HDTV is for HD. Are you getting my point? If you really want to receive HD broadcasting, you must really switch to the real deal. Soon in the near future, not very far off, all broadcasting would be in HD and digital TV's should be in every house. That is already happening as of today. So you better make the switch.

Signals sent to digital HDTV's are unlike those of analogs. In analogs, if you have a weak signal, you get fuzzy and frizzy images. On an HDTV, it is all or nothing. It has a steady stream of data, if there is a sudden fluctuation on the signal, you would receive a blank screen, that's it. All or nothing.

So the next time you are planning to buy a television set, you must really check out the latest HDTV. It's quite costly, but not as costly as it was before. But trust me, it is worth every penny you are spending. It is a good investment. The experience is unforgettable and you re also getting in tune to the trend of the future.
