Home Theater Wiring - Uses and allowances of HDMI Multimedia Interface Cables

The HDMI 1.3 cable is the newest version of the multiple multimedia interface cable that can be used to connect a number of electronic devices into the same interface. Compared to past models of the cable, which have changed relatively little compared to their predecessors, the 1.3 version has an array of new features that makes it the most adaptable of the bunch. But just what are the real benefits of using the HDMI 1.3 cable compared to the others? You would be surprised, I'm sure, to learn of all the ways that this new version will expand your multimedia interface and make it easier for you to combine your electronics.

To understand how this HDMI cable is going to help you, let's first talk about Digital Visual Interface (DVI). This is an uncompressed digital connection scheme that was actually originally developed for a network of personal computers. It was to be a low-cost, high-bandwidth digital connection between PCs and digital monitors, so that you could view your work on the best of television sets. Now it is the most widely used digital display interface in the computer industry. What does all this mean for your home theater system? Well, it means that you can include the DVI with it, especially by using DVI connections on projectors, monitors, and advanced DVD players, such as the new HD-DVD players.

HDMI Cable

HDMI cables come in when you want to hook up a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) system with that of a DVI. HDMI cables can carry video, audio, and inter-component operability commands (remote control signals) on one digital interface that has been built on the success of DVI. When a device is connected to an HDMI 1.3 cable, it gets all the video performance that DVI has to offer, up to and including 1080p.

Compared with your standard A/V interfaces, HDMI interfaces actually have a number of important advantages. The uncompressed format delivers digital HD video, multi-channel audio, and control signals between various HDMI and/or DVI components. By combining all this power into one cable, HDMI offers a convenient connection alternative to the maze of existing analog A/V cables that plague your home theater.

The HDMI 1.3 cable actually offers six distinct benefits to the HDMI world. The most obvious is the higher data transfer speed that it offers. It also supports a special format type known as Deep Color. This is the brand new color space used in video electronics. It can support 1.8 times as many colors as RGB (Red, green, blue color schemes), which helps it to show all the various colors found in nature. Incorporating automatic audio syncing capability is also a new feature for the HDMI 1.3 cable. This system will automatically adjust for the difference in electronic latency between the processing circuits of the sound and the image. This discrepancy usually comes up as a slight delay in sound and image correspondence, but it will be unnoticeable thanks to this new cable version.

In addition to all of this, the HDMI 1.3 supports the output of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-FD Master Audio streams. These are the lossless audio codec formats used on HD DVDs and Blue-ray discs. The cable is only useful here if the DVD player can't send information in an uncompressed format, though. The HDMI 1.3 can be used with a number of products, including the latest DVD players and the Playstation 3, which you may be interested to know, is the first product on the market that uses a HDMI 1.3 wire connection.

So if you're looking for the best connectivity possible, look into purchasing the HDMI 1.3 cable. The benefits HDMI 1.3 provides your home theater wiring set-up can't be beat, and you'll soon find yourself able to transfer data like never before.

Video Cable Definitions

Video Cables defined

In simple terms Video cables are cables which used for transmitting video signal from one source to other. Sometime these are called Coaxial cables because most of the video cables available today are Coaxial cables.

HDMI Cable

Reasons for using different Video Cables

Different video cables are used for different purpose depending upon their applications. Some of the advantages of using these cables are:

1. Improving contrast ratio

2. Running cables longer

3. Getting less video distortion

4. Creating improved colors

Types of Video Cables

Types of video cables are based on its application. Some of most popular types or video cables are:

1. DVI Video Cables

2. Composite Video Cables

3. RGBHV Video Cables

4. Component Video Cables

5. S-Video Cables

6. Portable Projectors Video Cables

7. VGA Video Cables

DVI Video Cables

DVI or digital video interface cables are slightly larger then standard VGA cables. Ideally DVI cables creates digital link between the source of video and display device.

Composite Video Cables

The most commonly used video cables are composite video cables. These cables frequently used in Video Cassette Recorder and stereo devices. These cables are color-coded namely red, white and yellow where red is for right channel audio; white is for left channel audio and yellow for video signal. Only one cable is used for transmitting complete video signal. These are most commonly used cables type inspite of their low quality video/audio signals. The most common uses of these cables are television, Camcorder, VD player, and VCR's.

RGBHV Video Cables

RGBHV Video Cables are similar to composite video cable but difference is in the fact that video signal in RGBHV cables are divided into five. These RGBHV cables divide the color of video signal into red, green and blue. Now days most of the high end monitors, HDTV used RGBHV connection to create the high definition video quality.

Component Video Cables

In Component video cables complete video signals are divided into three. This way it provides a better image quality then compare to composite cable or S-video cable. Jacks tips of component cables are Green, Red and Blue. Most of today's DVD players, HD television sets tuners uses component cable connections.

S-Video Cables

These S- video cables are also know as SVHS cables and have variety of uses including latest television sets, satellite set top box, camcorder and SVHS VCR's etc. S-video cables divide video signals into two components like luminance and chrominance. This is the main difference between S-video cables and composite video cables.

Portable Projectors Video Cables

As their name suggests portable projector video cable needs small room for connection. Due to this space scarcity most of the portable projector cables comes with 15 pin VGA. The projector is designed to sense the video signal it is receiving and process them accordingly. These portable projector video cables uses three out of 15 pins out connection designed for component video signal.

VGA Video Cables

These VGA cables are normal monitor cables and have three rows of fifteen pins. VGA cables are primarily used for PC to projector or PC to computer monitor connections

Using an HDMI Connection With the Wii

Nintendo does not make their Wii HDMI, (High Definition Multi Interface) compatible. In today's market virtually all HDTVs, (High Definition Televisions), are equipped with HDMI. Nintendo engineers usually are one step ahead of technology, but in this case they were one step behind. As usual, technology finds a way to solve these issues. Third party hardware makes adapters which enable HDMI for Wii, via a Wii cable. The adapters pose advantages and problems. The advantages include increased visual quality of Wii games, the ability to connect your Wii to your television, computer or other devices, and the use of only one cord in connecting your console to your television, while the problems include little visual improvement of Wii games and the risk of the adapter producing anomalies in some games.

One advantage of making your Wii HDMI compatible is that it improves the visual quality of games. Some adapters do not improve visual quality, while some do. The problem is that Wii games were not designed with HDMI technology in mind. HDMI was a new technology when Wii was developed and Nintendo engineers were not sure it would take hold. There are Wii HDMI cables available with video upscale processors that improve visual quality of Wii games. If you upgrade, do extra research and buy the best quality adapter on the market.

HDMI Cable

Another advantage of making your Wii HDMI compatible, via Wii cable, is you can connect your console to modern devices with HDMI technology like your television or your computer. The advantage of being able to connect your console to multiple devices cannot be understated. It increases the fun.

One other advantage is the use of only one cord to connect your console to your television or computer. In today's age of high technology it is almost unheard of to have a big wad of cords leading from one device to another. Buying the adapter prevents this problem.

One disadvantage is a lack of improvement in overall video quality. As stated before, some adapters improve quality, while others do not. The best quality adapters generally improve quality, so do extra research and buy the best adapter.

Another disadvantage is that even with improved quality, often the adapters cause anomalies in certain games. This is a hit or miss problem. The best thing to do about this problem, with games you really love, is keep both cords handy. Generally, it is not too hard to connect and disconnect your console from your television. The real disadvantage is having all the extra cords lying around, cluttering up the place.

Third party Wii HDMI kits make your Wii console HDMI compatible. These kits have advantages as well as disadvantages as discussed above. For serious gamers, HDMI for Wii, via Wii cable adapter provides a necessary improvement in video quality. For casual users, the cord is probably not necessary. Retailers online and at game stores everywhere provide these kits for as little as .00 and for as much as .00. Buy the best quality adapter to prevent some of the problems associated with the conversion.

New Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

The new Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is a very thin Android smart phone. With a metal bezel the Arc looks really stunning and invariably one of the most exciting Android touch phones. Due to the up-to-date version of Android, and a thinned-down custom user interface, the Arc has the potential to be one of the most favourite Sony Ericsson smart phone yet.

Measuring just 8.7mm it's very slim and light and slightly curved, feels comfortable in your hand with the trio of silver back, home and menu buttons at the bottom. Out of the Arc's specifications the biggest treat of all could be its 4.2-inch screen. It's a TFT LCD screen, which delivers an accurate colour reproduction. The 854x480 pixel resolution is sharp and beautiful to look at. They have supplied the screen with Sony's Bravia Engine image-processing technology. Bravia system delivers optimal colour, contrast, noise and sharpness on the Arc's screen. Arc does claim to protect its screen with a shatter-proof cover on the scratch-resistant mineral glass.

HDMI Cable

The Arc is one of the thinnest smart phones. It measures 9mm at its thickest ends and curves to 8.7mm in the middle. The Xperia Arc has a plastic case, rather than a metal case like some of its competitors.

The Arc offers an 8.1-megapixel camera with an LED photo light with face detection and image stabilization. Also it has the Exmor R CMOS sensor, which is so fresh that it's only just arriving on compact cameras. This sensor should take smoother, better-quality shots in low light than normal phone cameras. That's very good for a camera phone.

The Xperia Arc can also shoot 720p HD video and you can transfer your shots on the big screen with mini-HDMI port. The phone will come with a HDMI cable in the box. With the HDMI output from the phone you will be able to see everything you do on the phone mirrored on the TV screen, like on the Nokia N8.

The new Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc will be shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Sony Ericsson insists that the Arc will get an update to Android 3.0 Honeycomb too.
